1.3 SUBMITTALS

  1. Submit under provisions of Section 01300.
  2. Product Data: Manufacturer's descriptive literature for saunas and components specified in this section.
  3. Shop Drawings: Plan and elevations of sauna design, indicating construction details.
  4. Samples: Two samples, minimum size 4 inches wide by 8 inches long, of specified materials for wood paneling.
  5. Manufacturer's printed installation instructions for sauna, benches, and accessories.
  6. Operation and Maintenance Data: Sauna enclosure, heater, and control.
  7. Warranty documents: Issued and executed by manufacturer.

1.4 DELIVERY, STORAGE, AND HANDLING

  1. Store products of this section in manufacturer's unopened packaging until installation.
  2. Maintain dry, heated storage area for products of this section until installation of products.

1.5 WARRANTY

  1. Manufacturer's Warranty: One-year on room materials and workmanship when installed according to manufacturer's specifications and one-year on heater parts and Five-years on factory labor when heater is installed according to manufacturers wiring information, 5 years on factory labor.

NOTE: Prefab saunas must be installed on a level hard-surfaced waterproof floor; electrical conduit is sealed within the walls.  Control box (when necessary) is pre-mounted.  Contactors (when necessary) can be pre-mounted or installed separate from the sauna.

  5. Wall and Ceiling Insulation:  R-11 fiberglass batt, foil faced.

  7. Interior Wall and Ceiling Finish:  Board paneling of nominal 1 inch by 4 inches kiln-dried softwood lumber; small V-joint tongue-and-groove.

    3. Species:  Alaska Yellow Cedar, clear.

NOTE**   Western Red Cedar has the most color variation, a refreshing aroma, and is dry-rot resistant; as the softest wood, it is least hot to sit on or lean against. California Redwood is the most fire-resistant, dry rot resistant, termite resistant, and does not warp. Alaska Yellow Cedar is an exclusive white wood, has a pungent aroma, and is silky to the touch. Western Hemlock is excellent for people who have wood allergies or are chemically sensitive, since it has no aroma and no resins.

NOTE**   Retain one or two of the following paragraphs. The first is standard the second is an option.

  1. Exterior Siding:  11/32 inch ruff-sawn mahogany plywood.
  2. Optional Exterior Siding:  1/2 inch by 4 inch tongue-and-groove Western Red Cedar.(Can be applied to any or all exterior walls)
  3. Flooring:  "Super Dek" flooring squares for walking areas over concrete, tile, or vinyl; removable, washable, sanitary, non-skid, synthetic material.
  4. Prehung Doors and Frames:
    1. Door Rails: One-piece vertical grain Oregon Douglas Fir, machined for integral stop.

NOTE** Retain one of the following subparagraphs. Standard door size is 2 feet by 6 feet 2 3/4 inches. 3 foot doors are not ADA compliant due to 2 x 4 base- requires ramp for wheelchair accessibility.

NOTE** It will be necessary to ascertain the elevation above sea level for the sauna when ordering.

  1. Sauna Heaters: Three-wall pressed metal construction, stainless steel heating elements, large rock capacity, direct rock contact with heating elements, free air flow; UL tested and listed.

NOTE** Select heater type and model from the Heater Chart located in General Specifications.

  1. Heater Fence: S4S, kiln-dried clear vertical grain, 2 by 2 (1-5/8 inches by 1-5/8 inches). 16 inchby 26 inch wall model, 30 inch by 30 inch floor model.
  2. Benches: S4S, kiln-dried clear vertical grain, 2 by 2 (1-5/8 inches by 1-5/8 inches) tops with 1/2 inch nominal spacing; eased edges to eliminate sharp angles.
    1. Facings:  2 by 4 (1-5/8 inches by 3-1/2 inches) of same material as tops; eased edges.
    2. Trim: Wood species to match room paneling.
  3. Fasteners: Stainless and Galvanized, applied from the bottom to eliminate exposed metal; exposed nails countersunk and filled.
  4. Vents: 4 inches by 10 inches. White baked enamel.

PART 3 EXECUTION

3.1 EXAMINATION

  1. Verify that electrical services are of correct type and in correct locations.
  2. Verify that construction activities affecting work of this section are correct and complete.
  3. Examine walls, floors, and ceiling for suitable conditions where sauna is to be installed.
    1. Submit written notification if such conditions are unacceptable.
    2. Do not proceed with installation until unsatisfactory conditions have been corrected.

3.2 INSTALLATION

  1. Install sauna level and plumb in accordance with manufacturer's printed installation instructions.
  2. Connection of heater, lighting, and control to electrical service is specified in Finlandia Wiring Instructions.

3.3    CLEANING

  1. Clean and restore soiled surfaces prior to acceptance.

3.4 PROTECTION OF INSTALLED PRODUCTS

  1. Protect sauna and components from damage to finishes and operation until Substantial Completion.
